YOU GUYS, I’m getting a swimsuit suit this year. Never mind that I’m in Portland, which is, for all intents and purposes, landlocked. (Comments are open for those of you who want to talk about rivers and going to the river and rivers — and after you write that, take a look at the Who’s that Girl page for what’s known as THE OCEAN) Anysnark, I’m getting a swimsuit from Popina this season. They do retro-inspired swimwear and they’re a local, Portland company but they ship anywhere. The swimwear is meant for women and created by the most fabulous Pam, who I adore. (Pam is an inspiration to me — female, small business owner who makes a quality product and is so generous with the community — love her!)
And they are incredibly supportive of Back Fence PDX. They lent us six suits for our first show so we could have a fashion show…at our first Back Fence. Think about that for a moment. We wandered in and asked them they could, you know, just give the two of us some suits so we could ask strangers to wear them for a totally untested event. And Pam and Will were like, TOTALLY!
And they’ve been to every single Back Fence and because June 17th is our year anniversary, they’re giving us suits again to do the same thing. How awesome are they? Seriously.
I’m getting the halter top and the boys shorts and I love it. LOVE IT. I’ve not gotten it yet, but I suspect after June 17th I will have it in my hot little hands. And then I will wear it everywhere.

I want halter stuff. Shirts, dresses and swimsuits.
HOWEVER……..my bustage is HUGE and any cute halter won’t hold ‘em up!!
Also, I’m a ‘big’ girl, and halters don’t look cute with back fat rolling all about.
So……I will envy YOUR halter and boy shorts.
And continue to wear my skirted, floral one piece, 10 year old suit meant for plus sized women. Ugh.

Considering I currently have the shape of a swollen, edemic Oompa loompa I will marvel at the cute, sassy suit from a far. I mean, unless Popina has a suit in size XXL that comes with a sarong the size of a bedsheet. Water of any sort, save for the occasional shower and glass to drink, is pretty much off my list right now.

Melissa Lion – what the eff?
Rivers are the best. You gotta get out of Portland to enjoy the best rivers.. but I grew up next to 5 rivers and NOTHING IS BETTER THAN SWIMMING IN A RIVER!
First off – no sharks! And a little bit of exploring (or going with a local) can get you to a private swimming area where you can spend the entire day surrounded by trees, swimming holes, nature and junk! And river water is clean.. it feels good after you swim in it rather than the gross feeling I have after a day at the ocean.
If you want a couple hour trip, and don’t mind trekking a little off the beaten path – I will tell you about the best kept secret swimming hole in all of Oregon. Waterfalls (which you can climb behind) and the cleanest, clearest water.
