Are you kidding me?

Hands are shaking in anger right now.

Let me just say this clearly — devaluing writers in the digital age seems like a bad idea.

It is unfortunate, but also reality for a lot of paper print media these days. I am guessing you know this person? I wish her luck in finding something new and better.

Um.. Melissa? “Writing” is about the easiest thing you can do. Its just hitting a bunch of random keys on a keyboard and tuh duh! So it makes fiscal sense to lay off writers – we’ve all heard the million monkeys with a million keyboards argument. Well, since most places aren’t trying to recreate all the writings of Shakespeare… just a few news stories a day… they only need like a hundred monkeys and a hundred keyboards.

Yeah things are not looking good round these parts. The behind-the-scenes losses are even more devastating. When will these big media companies learn to monetize their digital assets?

I’ve decided to quit writing and pursue my second love – human resources.

It just SOUNDS glamorous, doesn’t it?

My hands were shaking in anger today when I realized that my husband brought all the leftover eggplant Parmesan to work with him.

That’s not the same as your stuff is it?

Devaluing writers in any age is a bad idea, but that’s generally how things go.

Robert’s comment reminded me of something I heard several years ago: “It was once said that a million monkeys pounding a million keyboards would produce the entire works of Shakespeare. But thanks to the internet, we now know that to be untrue.”

It’s sad, but from a very objective point of view, it’d make sense.

They’ll find out much too late that it’s the writer that makes the difference, not the content.
